Easy Cheesy sausage stuffed mussels with spinach is a delicious main problem for the whole family. This recipe combines ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese, and spinach, if you like, inserts it into shells. A hot spicy layer or mild Italian sausage complements the meal. Italy's favorite family dinner!
I appeared today to share this clam filled with sausages and my love of Italian food. Anyone who knows me can say I'm a big head of cheese. Smoking Gouda, Switzerland, Sharp Cheddar, you name it and I might like it. I even grated my own Parmesan. It is much cheaper that way too! This recipe filled with clams is very cheesy with layers of ricotta, Parmesan and mozzarella. This recipe is one of the most popular on the blog, and I'm republishing it to add some video content.
Material
- 1 package of 16oz jumbo pasta shells
- 4 cups of Ricotta or cheese cottage
- 12 oz of shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 eggs, shake for a while
- 4 tsp garlic powder * See note
- 1 tsp oregano dry
- 3/4 cup parmesan grated or grated fine
- 45 oz large spaghetti jar urn
- 4 cups of chopped coarse spinach and stems are removed if you prefer
- 1 lb. of Italian sausage land
- dried parsley for decoration
- 1/2 tsp pepper optional
Instructions
- In a pan over medium heat, brown and collapse the sausage. Drain any excess fat and remove from heat. In the same pan, cook spinach until wilted or about 1-2 minutes. Cook the clams according to the packaging instructions (I cook them until they are flexible to fill and more).
- In a bowl, combine ricotta, 8oz mozzarella, 1/2 cup parmesan, egg, oregano, garlic powder, and pepper (optional). Stir in spinach.
- Cover the bottom of the 9x13in pan with the whole jar of spaghetti sauce. Spoon the cheese mixture into the shells and place the shells open the sides, very close together on the plate. There will be more shells than will go into this pan and you can also make a second small pot (5 x 8 good) or frozen for future use. Sometimes the shells also break in the box so this is fine.
- Sprinkle the sausages over the clams. Then sprinkle with the remaining 4oz mozzarella and 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake at 350 degrees F for 25-35 minutes or until the cheese is cheerful. If you like a cheesy crust, you can cover it for 3-5 minutes (watching closely). Let stand 10 minutes before serving.
