It's easy, Cheesy toothed potatoes are stuck in a cream cheese sauce and grilled to perfection. With fast shortcuts, this classic side dish takes less than one hour from start to finish. They will definitely be a hit on your holiday party.
INGREDIENTS
- 2 pounds of russet potatoes
- ¼ cup of butter
- ¼ cup of flour
- 1 1/2 cups of nonfat or half & half milk
- Salt & pepper
- 8 ounces (about 2 cups) fresh grated cheddar cheese + 1/4 cup for topping
- Paprika, for decoration
- Fresh chopped leeks or parsley, for decoration
INSTRUCTIONS
- Preheat oven 350 degrees F and spread 13 "x9" baking pan with cooking spray.
- Bring a large pot of boiling water. Scrub potatoes and put them, whole, into boiling water. Cook for 20 minutes. Remove from water and let it sit until it's cool enough to handle.
- Meanwhile, make cheese sauce. Melt the butter in a pan while on medium heat. Beat in flour and cook, stirring constantly, until flour is golden brown; about 2 minutes. Stir in milk and cook, stir frequently, until thickened; about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in grated cheese. Season with salt and pepper.
- Gently peel the potatoes and slice into round 1/8 inches. Place 1/3
- potatoes overlap in one layer in baking dish, seasoning with salt and pepper. Spoon about 1/3 cheese sauce over potatoes.
- Repeat for two more layers. Pour all the remaining cheese sauce over the top layer of potatoes. Spread to make sure all potatoes are covered.
- Sprinkle with 1/4 cup of shredded cheddar (if desired) and paprika (about 1 / 8-1 / 4 teaspoons).
- Bake in an oven 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes, or until the sauce is cheerful.
- Decorate with fresh minced chives or parsley, if desired. Serve immediately.
